About Us

Around 25 years ago, Siobhan and I (Teper) started going to barn dances run by my father, Keith Blundell. As we enjoyed the dancing so much, we became part of the demo team, and attended many dances over the next couple of decades. We took the opportunity in 2010 to have our own barn dances in Johannesburg. What a good decision.

We have discovered that running the dances, as opposed to being a demo dancer, is a quite different skill! (We have learnt a lot from Caroline.) It has been a fantastic experience for us, and we have enjoyed learning to tailor the dances, and choice of music, to the needs of the crowd.

Our major lesson has been:

Keep it simple! Many people at barn dances have never danced at all. So we use very simple dances, particularly with line dances which can be challenging to people who have never danced before. The group dances (square dances, reels and circle dances) are also designed with complete beginners in mind.

We have discovered the pleasure there is in sharing something fun with others. Because that, above all, is what we want to do - have fun dancing. We like to put a Boogie in the Beat! :)

See our calendar (on the functions and contacts pages) for fundraiser dances open to the public - support a cause and have fun!
